Times almost up

I'm trying to get a bunch of stuff done before surgery on the 23rd. At least everything that either requires me having 2 good arms, or 2 people to do the job. Doors got hung, my coffee table has been cut down and is at least ready for sanding. Pictures and the Home Sweet Home picture my mom made have all been hung. The other deadline is the parents coming out for Christmas.

I start getting estimates on getting tile put down tomorrow night.

Work is ....odd. I've just come to realize that I will do what I can do, and it's not going to matter much. I have to be ok with it because it's not really worth fighting for. I do a good job, and I am productive and generally proud of what I do. However, This isn't my lot in life. This isn't what I'm passionate about. It's a good job...for a start. I know it's not a good time to be looking, but I will anyway. We've been informed there is a possibility the jobs won't be there next year. I think I still want to be a paralegal, but to know that I need to do *real* paralegal work. Not the streamlined stuff they have us doing on the legal assembly line at work.

Lunch today with [info]nyecamden (he had turkey salad, I had chickenoid fillets, chips and mayonnaise descended from wood glue. And it was NOM.) and a bit of a wander around Bloomsbury. Heartwarming card in the window of Gay's The Word: "I don't have Tourette's. You're just a cunt."

Freda is feeling better, so we'll see how she goes at the hospital. Tomorrow will be long and tiring.

I have come home from work exhausted and ready for bed at 9:30pm. I have turned into my father.

i just had a really nice weekend.

thursday's potluck/housewarming chez j was great. nice to meet new people, hang out with old friends, eat good food and be at a party where i wasn't the hostess! slept over, went out for a walk whilst everyone else was sleeping, picked up some apples and dish soap. read in the sunlight streaming in, nommed on leftovers, made myself useful. then we headed off to niagara falls.

the hotel room was amazing and horrifying all at once. heart-shaped red jacuuzi tub for two that my fella could stretch out in. awesome. and i'm not sure how they can call themselves "fallsview" what with there not being a view of the falls from anywhere in the hotel. but whatever, the price was right. it was about a 25 minute stroll from our hotel to the conference centre where the eldest was competing, and a great excuse to get some air and exercise. i felt sorry for my fella and j with the delays in the competitions, but at least they had each other for mutual support on saturday. i hung out with other mommies, musicians and impressarios. i was supportive for my eldest. i let the youngest run around with her friends from a bunch of different schools. the eldest didn't come home with any hardware, but danced well with a big smile that was a joy to behold. the girls stayed with shigi, and i got to spend some special time with my fave guy.

saturday afternoon after all the competitions and obligations we headed back to the hotel, ostensibly to freshen up. after over half an hour together in the incredibly hot tub (with bubbles!), we headed down to the restaurant in the hotel lobby for refreshment. the waitress was astounded at how thirsty we were, asked if we'd been jogging, or had the flu if we needed so much hydration. ummm, honey, we're in the honeymoon suite, what do you think? (honestly, the tub's temp was difficult to regulate, we were total lobsters) just give me my virgin pina colada and a jug of water, and nobody will get hurt.

our real anniversary isn't for a couple of weeks, but being in niagara falls just seemed to be too much of an opportunity to pass up. anyhow, a wonderful weekend, the celebration didn't stop until this morning. last night we watched some BSG, ate fudge we brought back from the hershey store. i chatted with ali last night and this morning. life is good. i'm feeling refreshed.

so, this morning, the alarm clock went off way too early, i had to kick a snuggly kitteh off me and drag myself away from my warm fella. the youngling was freaking out because she couldn't find the bus tickets i'd bought for her the week before, nor the powerpoint she was supposed to present today. as in sobbing, crying "what's WRONG with me???" etc. i volunteered the helpful info that for starters she didn't do as i'd asked last night when i said to get ready for school, and that her room was such a mess how could she find anything? i also made her lunch, and was going to offer to drive her to school if it took too long to find the usb stick, and handed her money for more bus tickets to make it through the day. fortunately, everything was found. also, the kid had only woken up five minutes before. little miss "i'm responsible now. i wake up to my alarm clock every morning." and then we found out the really happy news- bus strike. guess i'll be doing chauffeur duty this week.

good grief

Borderlands

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 3:41 PM
Just picked up Borderlands for the XBox 360 and gave it a quick hour's play before work... liking it! Slightly reminiscent of Fallout3 (a bit RPG, a bit action, fairly post-apocalyptic) but with multiplayer options (by christ, I'd sell my cock for multiplayer F3).

If anyone wants a buddy for a multiplayer session, give me a poke :)

(I'm DeathBoyUK on XBox live)

Shoe fail today. Apparently size 12 is obsolescent in Selborne Walk, E17 unless you like shoes that are really horrible. We did however get older teen's much-delayed birthday present. At least the weather wasn't utterly vile.

Meeting [info]nyecamden for lunch tomorrow, which will be very nice.

Freda is scheduled for her much-delayed dental operation on Tuesday. Unfortunately, she has a cold. We'll see what the anaesthetist says.
